| Transcript | [Page 1] P.O. box 148 Perth Ontario, Canada Dec 24 1935 Dear Jim, - Ruth and I were talking about old friends the other night and this turned my mind in your direction. May I first tell you about ourselves and some other things that may [be?] more or less news. The economic collapse in the Border Cities has been much [worse?] than [elsewhere?] I know anything about [Page 2] At one time 35% of the entire population were on relief among them wary people one would never imagine would or could be nearly all those [out?] on relief lost all or nearly all capital and [income?] Equally [amazing?] has been the recovery of many and the local leadership through it all sufferers themselves some have been able to triumph J [cro--?] Loughlin, Colonel Brodie the latter a native of [Scotland?], Wallace Campbell Mrs [Page 3] Herman of the B.C. star [and?] many others are notable examples. I have met Harry [Lynes?] several times at Toronto the past several years also [shirley?] and their two children Harry is a [barber?] and seems [sic] doing well [Tim?] is still at London I have not seen him for a while you all remember when they had the only shop of its kind on [Ouilletle?] ave - since those days when we [used?] to frequent the [place?] nearly all the [-----?] is [in?] that street right up to [Urgenuth?] my brother Bob is still in practice there he has three children two boys and a girl January 1934 I was [appointed?] to this post in Lanark County. The work is light. you may not have heard but I had a [bad?] [break?] with [perivious?] [anaemia?] and had to give up [practice?] and politics my present situation suits my physical needs [well?] We have three children also two boys and a girl and lovely children they really are ...
