TranscriptMy dear John
IT is about 0ne O'Clock and I believe that
we are to get into Port Said tomorrow morning.
The sun is beginning to get very warm those
last two days but from what I am told it
has to get hot before long. I am a little
anxious to know what it will be like then?
We did not call at Napels [Naples?] as I hear that
there is Colera [Cholera?] there at present, when
starting I believe it was intended that
we should call but owing to the change
we are going verry [very?] slow latterly in fact
only killing time as this ship has to
take the mails from Sueze [Suez?] on Friday
You will be surprized to hear that nether [neither?]
James or [Jas?] was sick although we had a
rough time of it in the Bay of Biscuay [Biscay?].
Your humble servant Mary got a tip top
dose. It is reported that their [there?] are
about seven hundred on board and as
well as I can find out they are collected
from all parts of the world except Russia.
I would tell you more if I were speaking
to you (but I can't) and I detest writing.
Let me hear from you as soon as you can
of course a letter directed to the
General Post Office Sidney [Sydney?] will find
me I am anxious to hear any news.
With best wishes to all from your old
friend.

John Byrne
Tell James that I expect to
hear from him too
