My Dear Nixon
I read your sorrowful Letter that you have lost your Dear Eliza. I can Sympathise with you as I have passed throug[h] the same trial. It is only time that will ever relieve you from the angu[i]sh you have felt on account of her Death.
We are all well thank God at present. This is my Birth Day. 29th of
November 1802 I was Born. I am 77 years of Age this Day. My eye sight
is very much gone and also my memory. I think this is the Last letter ever
I will attempt to write to Australa or any where else. You may see By this
Scribble that is not like what I once wrote. But thank God I am so well. I
am not afflicted with Sickness or pain only Natural Weakness. I cant Expect
to live long in this world now. Neither do I Desire it longer than God
pleases. I am Striving to be resigned and Say thy will be Done O God. My
Dear Nixon I have learned By experience that when we Become Old and
useless we are only in the road no matter what were we once or Done.
Eliza wrote me a Letter on the 18th February 1878 From Westbourne
St Petersham Sydney. She sent Marget a Silk tie in the letter and she said
if would get the letter to write Back to her in Care of Mrs Henry with who
s[h]e lived with and she would Send a letter to me and Something in it. I
did write But got no answer and after a lenth of time I wrote again and
no Answer. I then thought perhaps she was Dead. If she is living with
you when this reches you you will read this Letter to her and if she wrote to me as she said she would you or Eliza will write to me and if she has
wrote that I may look after the letter as there has Been many Complaints
about Ballenamallerd Post Office but if Eliza Did not write the second letter to me she need not trouble herself any Farther if she wishes.
Now, My Dear Nixon it is most likely you will never see my hand
write again. The Best I can give you is Prepare for Death and that prepares
you for Judgemt. My love to Fathy George Eliza Nixon and all that Belong
to yous. No more my Dear Children Farewell.
Your affectionate Father to Death
