My dear Mother
Having to do all Court and advising business myself there are
times when I can hardly stir. Today, for instance, though now
4.30, I have still to attend a meeting at 6.30 p.m.; and preside at
a Girls' School, to make a speech and deliver the prizes at 8 p.m.
I was up catching Modesty 6 miles off at 5 a.m. So I can only
just say that I have cancelled my holiday trip, as Eugene will
arrive in the middle of the Xmas holidays, and will probably advise
him to stay in the Irish quarter of West Adelaide. He ought to
have written to me as he just arrives after the annual elections for Benefit Societies; nevertheless, I have requested some men to run
him, accepting my guarantee, (as an exposer of quacks) for his
capacity and steadiness. If he does not remain here, I think I can
fix him in the country, with a guarantee to start on. I had intended
to ask him to continue his journey to Melbourne, so that I
could join him, but it is better for him to start work at once and
look to holiday visits hereafter. Nothing like preliminary listlessness
to play the deuce with one.
The strike nearly broke Lizzy. I sent her £7 last post, to
pay a summons. Tom has luckily passed through here to work at
Broken Hill. In great haste

Your affectionate Son
P McM Glynn

P.S. Would you post that to the Blaquieres? The letter was just
returned from America — Refused for 5 cents deficiency in postage.
