| Transcript | 6 October 1909 My dear Mother On Tuesday evening, at Henley Beach, where the family are staying for a week, though I had to put up in town — Patrick, as usual, when in bed asked me to tell him what I used to do when a boy. He bars anything good; but particularly asked me to tell him any very naughty thing I did. I unfortunately had started with tying boys to Hall doors, knocking, and running away; climbing the crane and pulling knockers with a string, etc., so am expected to live up to that level. As a compromise I mentioned about Paddy Madden and the boat; and strange to say next morning came your letter, with the Pilot, from a daughter of Paddy Madden. We are more than half way through the session, and kept going. The work of my office is, however, worth doing. Just on the day of my appointment I had sold the St. Kilda Road house and Furniture which belonged to Abbie; a piece of bad luck as we could have lived there for a time. But one cannot tell.
