| Transcript | 1850: May 27" To Sandford Fleming, (Toronto, Ontario] Auburn, Peterborough 27th May 1850 My dear Sir I hope you will forgive me for again encroaching on your time & attention, as well as your kindness in this way but I am tempted to do so by having heard a message you sent to my son George by Dr. McNabb, advising him to try & get some means of improving himself by going to Toronto. This he has been long wishing much to do & could he hear of any employment or situation to enable him to pay the expenses attendant on living there, & afford him an opportunity of learning and advancing in the branches of Science and Art necessary to the Professions he has chosen, he is most ready to accept of it. If you know of any place of this kind or could without inconvenience to yourself make some enquiries to seek one for him, he & I shall both feel deeply indebted to you. He writes a tolerably fair hand & understands accounts & Bookkeeping & would be most thankful if you will have the goodness to let him know as his great wish is to do what he can & to feel that he is doing something or anvjhing to improve himself & to be independent He would devote his spare hours to improvement in different branches of Science if he could procure employment in some Store or office & a moderate salary to enable him to live.
