Antrim Ireland Ship "Lady Russell" Woolwich July 22nd 1856 Dear Brother I arrived here last night and disembarked the Horses and Troops in about 2 hours and Expects to be clear of all the Baggage tomorrow so that we will be seen clear of the Transport Service. I received two letters from my owners today one telling me they expected this ship was in good order and that they had remitted the œ1800 to Pay the Crewe & C. and that I am to Proceed to Quebec, the [?]ward is only 8 days here and she will be ready for sea to omorrow [tomorrow?] for Quebec, also, the [?] got to L.pool [Liverpool?] to see his family. So that there is not much chance for Sam to see his mama this time but we will be coming home to L.pool [Liverpool?]and then what a cup of Tea It will only be 3 or 4 months more I am going to Pay the Crew of on Friday, so you will have the [?] home by and By - My owners say the are much Pleased to here [hear?] of my arrival and all well. They dont [don't?] say I have done well for them [at all?.] You must write fast and long letters as I expect to be ready for sea In about 8 days. You will direct to Captn [Captain?] Sam Smiley Ship "Lady Russell" Care of Messrs. Temperly Carter 60 Fenchurch Street London. They are my brokers so that I will look anxiously to I receive a long letter. Tell my swethart [sweetheart?] that I will be there in 3 or 4 months and that I am very busy at Present as I assure I have my hands full and I may say no one to assist me - I dont [don't?] exactly no [know?] how my Books stand But as near as I can gess [guess?] there is when my wages is [?] about - œ400 to my credit I will be able By and By to let you no [know?] it they dont [don't?] allow me interest for it I shall draw and remit it to you it as well in the Bank paying a little as nothing I remain your affton [affectionate?] broth [brother?] Sam Smiley We must attend to Business Before Pleasure. Supposing I had a wife I suppose I would be like the " [?] " Growling hard but could not help it. you see our ships are Supposed to be in good order and when we are clear of government [?] to [de But] order stores and Proceed on our next voyage. Do you see how it is with one that I cannot get home this time. I think I will write no more until I get an answer from you as I am [scrawling?] and you have no chanse [chance?] of writing as I have been moving about so much but as you have a chance write every day until further advised By me S.
