| Transcript | To John Scott & John McMichael, Philadelphia August 1756 Dear Sirs: I am favoured with yours of the 2nd & 5th Instant and observe the Contents.I have noted the Several sums as advised by you, & tho Thomas Wallace is so brisk, the freight you pay for the 500 bushells salt he shall pay for Dobbes's Cargoe. No thing would Induce me to part with the powder in your powder house but your looking upon it to be in danger (at £12 per hundred). You must Sell it as well as you can. I mean the 60 Casks in the powder house & latt the buyer know the Circumstances it is under, that if a Seizure shoud happen afterwards, you may not be blamed. I am well satisfied that you have stored my Goods where you think them safest, & I now agree with you in Oppinion that it woud be imprudent to move them Into the Country. The Chest of arms Marked A.S. belongs to Captain Steel, now in your place, & he must have one of Mine, and for your Government you have the Coppy of the Invoice I received of them annexed. Two Chests of them came here directly; One Contained 36 & the other 25 Musketts. Pray Examine if any of the Chests has got wet; if so, you must have them Cleaned. When you can sell a Chest together, either with or without Bayonets, take 30s rather then Miss the sale, but by retaile, the[y] ought to bring 40s Each. You must Change steeles Chest. You must sell the Geneva & the Chest of tea Marked V for What it will bring. Furnish me sales of the Tea sold by my order for Account of Mr. Van Vleot & Charge 5 per Cent Commission on it. You must also furnish sales of the paper as soon as you can When Captain Wardell arrives. Send my Letters by the stage as I have Coppys of them by the Packet. If Howell is a particular friend of yours, make him a Compliment of our Commission for receiving his Money, but if Otherways, he must pay you £2.6.11 this Currency, being 21/2 per Cent for receiving & paying £93.18.7. The Prize goods turns out at the sales as you Imagined too dear to be Concerned with. Cotton sells from 15d to 16d per pound, Coffee 9d per pound, Sugars from 31/2d to 7d per pound. You dont mention to have sent the ozenbriggs by Stewart. When did he saile? WC P.S.
