| Transcript | To Thomas Mercer, St. Christophers 15 August 1756 Dear Thomas: I am this morning favoured with yours of the 10th Ultimo. I assure you it gives me great pleasure to hear of your Prosperity. Your letter for Philadelphia is forwarded. 1 am affraid youl make a poor Voyage with your Brigg As there is an Embargo in Philadelphia. This is a much better Market for all West India Produce, and as good for any thing you ship there. Indeed, I believe if you shiped any Rum in your Vessel, I sold it, as I was concerned in A Parcil, at 12/5 per Gallon with your Friend T Wallace & had a Parcel I consigned me also by him which I am now selling at 3/6 per Gallon. It will give me great pleasure to hear often from you, & when I can serve you or your Friends here, be assured of my readiness. Since the 1st of May, I have been in Partnership with Thomas Greg. Our Firm is Greg & Cunningham. WC Exchange to London, 85 per Cent Sugas, as in quality, from 40s to 60s per Hundredweight Barbadoes, antigua & St. Kills rum, 3/6 per Gallon Flower & bread bears no Certain price on account of the Embargo Gamons, 6d per pound: pork £3.15.0 per Barrill White oak Hogsheads slaves, £4.10.0: Red Ditto, £3.10.0; Headings, £6 per thousand Pitch, Tar, & Turpentine, £12s per Barrill Via Philadelphia |
