heartly sory for your great loss by the Death of your Worthy Friend Mr. John Messrs. Livingston & Gordon of Kingston, Jamaica, in a Letter of the
23rd March last writes our WC that they had taken Freight at 40s per ton
for his Logwood in the ship Diamond, Stephen Ancill Master. They have
not since wrote him. Be so kind to enquire at the Jamaica traders when
the ship was to sail & get £300 Sterling Insured on it If she is not arrived
when this comes to hand & Charge the Cost to his account. They are to
ship you about Twenty nine Tons of Logwood which, if they do agreeable
to fhe terms mentioned above, honour their bill for any sum not
exceeding £130 Sterling. Otherways, let their bill be protested, as they, tho able men, has beheaved to me very unlike Merchants. Dispose of the
Logwood to the best advantage on arrival with you.
You would have had sales of your goods long ere this, but Mr. Yzendoorn
shiped the Muslins & Cambricks much too fine, which not only makes
them slow sale, but they sell for a poor profit.
The trade from holland is entirely sloped, which in a short time will
make India goods from your place Answer well. Annexed you have the
present prices. There are Two French prizes brought in here. One a large
ship from Marlinico bound for Bourdeaux who[se] Cargoes sold for:
