TranscriptTo James Goldfrap, Albany 21 October 1756

Sir:

Yesterday we received your favour & are not A little surprized to find
you should not be acquainted that Merchants here keep their accounts
in Currency, which by our Bill of Parcel you see the Sterling cost charged
& on it 125 per Cent, which brings it into Currency, & by the manner
you sold the Linnens, you received for them very nigh Sterling what
they cost you Currency. So that had you been acquainted with this
circumstance. We should not have had any trouble, as the Linnens must
be cheap by your own Letters, being but 50 per Cent too dear at the rate
you sold the two Peices. They cost you £14-15.4 Currency, about £8
Sterling, & you sold them for £13.15.0 Sterling.
The Box of Linnens got some damage coming from Albany. We have
not examined how much it has received, but shall want your directions
about sending them to you. As we expect when you see your mistake,
they will answer for you well. Besides we cant pretend to take them if
they have received much damage. We are sory such a mistake should
hapen, but its all with your self. G&C
