| Transcript | Mr Cornelius Riordan N° 22 Atkinson street Boston State of Mass America prepaid Thomas Prendergast Thoma Milltown Boston Milltown October the 11th 1842 My Dear children, I take this opportunity of writing you these few lines hoping to find each of you in as perfect health as this leaves me your affection^ate^ mother and Brothers with their families at present thank God for his infinite mercy. I always received your letters even the last directed to Jerh Connor and which is most grievous and surprising to me that ye had not received any letter from me this time past and writing frequently to ye. Dear children let me know in your answer to this whether you received a letter bearing date the 20th of August last as I mentioned the particulars of the affairs in it. I always received your drafts the one of May of £5..os.od and the other in Augt last of £5..os.od stg. Now Dear children as not getting my letters I have changed from Milltown post to the Killarney post dreading it may be a neglect of theirs. Dear children I have sent four pair of long stockings one for each of you by Catharine and Anne Spring now the Mrs Springs which sailed from Cork on the 8th of October Inst. I expect you will answer this at the receipt of this as usual and send me a particular acct respecting (Turn over) The Springs and also let me know about Robert Riordan or has he any employment or is he still with ye. As I am anxious to know what my affectionate child Judy is doing as you never mentioned to me what she was doing in any of your letters. Dear children both your mother and I was not in better health these twenty years past as we are at present thank God th° it would be a happy circunstance to each of you were we in our long home. Dear children from the enquiry made by your mother of the Springs of your ever coming home they had told her ye never would. Therefore if it be not your wish coming home your affectionate mother would be most anxious to be with ye on the first of May next as she would be better pleased being and dying with you than elsewhere. Let me know in your next letter how is Michl Sullivan getting on or is he still in your neighbourhood. His Wife Mary Donoghue was not able to go to him this season but will on May next according to the account or encouragement sent by her husband and she is surprised why he does not write frequently to her. Daniel Riordan still in the Victoria Hotel. He is well in health. Richard Eagar Esqr Attorney is Dead. A few days before his death he had settled with your affectionate Brother Maurice and he passed his note to him for £8.10s which he does not expect to receive a penny by him for ever. Also The Revd John Quill formerly your p.p. of Milltown but lately of Liselton near Listowel where he died and being Intered there the loving boys of milltown went and brought him to be buried in the chapel in milltown according to his own wish tho his own friends chosed to have him with his father and mother he was taken from their bosom and brought to milltown where there was a magnificient procession from the time the corps left Tralee. The Town was all lighted by different persuasions in honor of our long lamented ^Clergyman^. He was waked in the Chapel and intered within the Chapel where we had the greatest concour[...] of people of different creeds at the Burial all in mourning f [...] Loss of that talented p.p. Dear children do not forget [...] to me about the last letter if you have recd it or not as the [...] of this letter was present at the posting of it namely Patk D Mahony soninlaw to Danl M Connell schoolmaster. James Prendergast The writer of this letter and who is a particular friend of mine and always writes my letters but my signature his name is Patrick Mahony of milltown. He begs of you to enquire about a cousin of mine ^his^ who is in Boston. His name is Patrick Moynihan Tailor. He got lately married to a daughter to one Danl Buckley who lives in Broadstreet. If you discover him tell him that I begged of him to write to me about my brother Cornelius Mahony who went to America along with him if he recd any account from him.
