Dear Brothers, I take this first opportunity of
addressing you hoping to find you all in general
in as good health as this leaves me and family
with my affectionate Father and mother at present
thanks be to providence. Dear Brothers I intend troubling you a little. As being my first request and
I trust as faithful subjects and Brothers you will not fail
sending same (ie) the sum of £3..os.od. By remitting
me this to purchase a mule would be the greatest
means of making me comfortable through life.
At sending for this to you Dear and affectionate
Brothers I did not acquaint my Father or mother of it.
I would be capable of getting through life well enough
but meeting with disappointments these two years
past with regard of being unwell myself that left
me deficient of money at present. Therefore if you
remit me the above sum it will flourish me through
life moreover as I got well in health thank God for his
gracious gifts. (Turn over)
And should you send me same if ever you should
come to Ireland again if I had no other way of paying
you but giving up same I will pay you. Therefore as
being the first I expect you both will not fail to send
me the sum of £1..10s each which will be the greatest
means of sustenance for me and family. Therefore do
not fail to write to me speedily as I would have to
write again and again until I receive your answer
as I thought at our last fairwell inside the ditch
of the old Pike near Killarney that I would not be so
long from seeing you. Dear Brothers Jeremiah Sheehan
Kate White's son being with Sir Wm Godfrey Bart as
servant he and one McDonnell this McDonnell and
he made an attempt of robbing Sir Wms desk of money
of which they were in Bridewell these days past until
Sheehan being bailed by James Godfrey. McDonnell has
gone to jail to stand his Trial at the coming assizes
and also Sheehan. Transportation is sure to them. They
had false keys and found on MDonnell’s person. Dear Brothers the times are very dul in this country
Rates very low and no employment for labourers.
Repeal carried on on the greatest terms.
Danl OConnell was arrested in Dublin he and a great
many of the nobility to stand their trial on the
6th Inst but we hope that the trial will be of no
avail. Dear Brothers two of my children died last
year as I may say one on to day and one on the
following day. No more at present from your
affectionate Brother wishing you Thomas and Jeffeory
Prendergast not forgetting my loving Sister Judy and her
loving husband Cors Riordan every happiness and
Remain for ever until Death your
loving Brother
Michael Prendergast
P.S
Let Cors Riordan and Judy know that I have sent for
this trifling sum. Direct the letter to my Father
when you are remitting any to him who will give
me the above sum if you send it for me to him.
If you are sending it mention it for me in your
letter and he will give it to me safely.

My Fatherinlaw and I does not chime well. What he promised
me I did not get which was one of the disappointments.
