TranscriptDear Brother Thomas,

I was delighted to hear in thy letter chat thee was well enough to go to school, but by Joseph's last I am sorry to
hear that thee is not so well, although I was afraid it was because of confining thee. I said a good deal to Father
about the liverwort and I do hope that thee will cry it faithfully - thee knows it did thee so much good before;
and try to take care of thyself.
I am going to bring home plenty to take care of, so many kinds of seeds and some moth worms eggs from N.Y.
and if 1 can procure them ... setting for thee. Aunt has a beautiful flower-garden and I am going to save all kinds
of seeds. There is two kinds of honey suckle — the sweetcented and the coral — which will require frames, as also
the everlasting pea and the wall flowers. Some of them will need boxes, so thee sees thee will have plenty of business
when I come home, taking care of thy silkworms and attending to so many things; and, another thing, thee must
take a few lessons in cheese making from Hiram Arnold so thee and I will be ready to go into the cheese making
business with flying colors next spring. I have written some resipes for the making of Chess hire cheese and cream
and Sapsero cheese and I think that with thy knowledge ... [and mine?] put together we will go a little ahead
of Davy Crockett, even in the curds and whey literature, which will do more in Collins than almost any other and
I think that we will make the Buffalo and travel to see Chesshire Cheese. Write again to

thy affectionate sister
Maria O'Brien
