My dear Sir,

I Beg to acknowledge the receipt of your Letter of the 1st inst. enclosing a Bill of Exchange for the sum of £16.5.6. This very handsome donation, in which yourself and your friends of the same name have so large a share, merits on my part, the most sincere acknowledgment of gratitude, which I beg you to accept for yourself, your namesakes, friends, and for all those who have assisted and contributed for the establishment of the Schools in Omagh, under the care of the Christian Brothers.
You state, that it is now 27 years since you left Omagh, and your delight at the progress of Catholicity:- to me this is proof sufficient, that neither time, not place has been able to eradicate the inherent love of Faith and fatherland, the glorious, the ennobling characteristic of the genuine Irishman, whatever his fate, his fortune may be.
You will be astonished too, and delighted to learn, that we have now completed the school-house, and a beautiful residence for the Brothers, at an outlay of, at least £800, and trust, in the course of 4 or 5 weeks from this date, to open our school in Omagh: this is not all, we have a beautiful Convent erected in immediate proximity to the School, at a cost of £2500: This house is conducted by the Loretto Nuns, who have commenced to good work, some five or six years since; but the house was too small, in which, their labours were carried on heretofore; and hence, the necessity of the new erection. I forward you with this letter, a copy of the Derry Journal, in which, I have endeavoured to give a brief description of places and surrounding scenery, which may recall those spots, familiarized, I am sure to your eyes in days gone by, and on which, memory loves to dwell, even in the land of dreams.
In conclusion, I have, again, to express my warmest thanks for your kind donation - nor shall I be forgetful of you and yours, and the other generous contributors, as often as I stand at the Altar, to offer the Holy Sacrifice.
Believe me to remain, faithfully, sincerely yours.

M. O'Kane P.P
