| Transcript | Menominee Mich November 5th 1871 it is with pleasure i sit down to write you these few lines hoping it will all the all same there was a great fire in Peshtigo for a long while on Sunday night there was a great Blow up and swept every house in Pes Peshtigo and Burnt [memekawa] down and only left three houses and Burnt around [our] houses and Burnt [faded out] house and Burnt [unclear] up and Burnt over fifty persons down there and burnt over 500 in Peshtigo i am going to school now and so is james and so is Mary and so is thomas and Willie has to stay at home i am in the fifth reader and jim is in the hisory of the united states and Mary is in the fourth reader and thomas is the first reader mother and father sends thir kind respets to yea all tell pat he must come out and see us i will write you another letter like this no more at present we got pats letters John McCarty kate is running about and can talk and say a good many word now willie goes to school some times no more at present amen grandmother when i get able to earn money if i can i will come out and see you John Mccarty (Sideways on Page) it is very fine weather but yet not no cold nor no rain for a good will i am going to get my likeness one of these sundays and send it to you |
