The smelts are very scarce just now they are 3cts. They have cut some wood at home Willie
came up a Saturday morning. He went up a Friday and got it cut of. He was at the Sisters and
they put him asleep He has got to go up a Monday. Willie says to hear him talken you would
think he was to South Africa fighting the Boers. It is very cold cold today and no appearance of
any snow. I am afraid there wont be very good sleighing for Christmas. We are all very glad to
hear of you doing so well. Mamma says she does not vee fell any cold when she goes out she is
so proud of her shawl. I heard them say that Alex Stewart was gone to cut a hundred cord of
Birch somewhere about the mill. We all wish you a happy Christmas and a merry New Year. Are
there any hills out there like in Bartibogue. I have not much more news to write to you this time
but I will write one to you after Christmas and no one will know whats in it. Write to me as soon
as you can about Christmas yourself Mike is home they are cutten wood the rails are home.
Father and Will cut wood for Bill Monday will come up at and father helped him the next day.
The neighbours are all well. Joe is gone to fire up at the mill. Henderson is boss. Cowie is there
now. I heard Currie is gone to New Orleans. You will see in the other letter how they got on
with the boiler. There was dreadful teamen. Poor writing bad proper. Christmas is pretty handy
and I am busy now knitting for Ned and maken a shirt. They put the Stove up in the room. Write
soon Its gone to be a dull Xmas. I feel lonesome on Sundays.
