| Transcript | 89 Union Park St. Boston May 14-06 My Dear Cousin John: As you see I have changed my [home again this] time for city life. I am not at the home of the Grey Nuns. They have this home here for working girls and then they have another in some other part of the city for unemployed gl girls. I don’t know just how many is here but there must be nearly 200. It is not very [far] from my work, A five cent car fare or I can walk it in half an hour. They charge from three to six dollars a week for room and board. At half past six every morning they ring a large bell to wake the girls up, again at seven for breakfast, and then for dinner and supper. The lights are put out at ten o’clock so you see I have to keep pretty good hours. Of course I miss my Waltham friends. I saw the Rev. Fr. Daley two weeks ago He is just as nice as ever. Oh say th he is going to have a pop concert the 11th of June and I have a book selling chances on twenty five dollars in gold to be given away that night so I am going to put your name on it to see if you will be lucky enough to draw it. I guess you will think you are never going to see your money again but I am going to send you some before a great while. Well John everything in the office is going on just about the same. Did I tell you before that I had a new man in with me now and the girl left us. One noon time she sa stood up from her desk and told the boss she was going home he said don’t you feel well? she said yes but I am not coming back. She never told me she was going at all. Tuesday May 15th Well John here I am once more. It is so long since I got your letter I forgot what you asked me. I have not seen Mrs. Pond for a long while. They are living in Chasm Charles-town now. I must go to see them soon. Say John where is [Al] now when I was in Waltham there was someone called to the house two or three times and I was not in, he did not leave his name and I never found ------{material missing}------ |
