My Dear Brother

I received your welcome letter saturday evening and was glad to hear that ye were both
well. We are all pretty well here at present. Mike and Katie were in last sunday to see Ned. He
is better now than what he was. Mike said he ate near a dozen eggs so he cant be too bad. I
suppose ye did the same each. Well we are having a pretty late spring here and cold also, the
wind being so much from the north and the east, but yesterday and today it is warmer the wind
being from the west, maby you are sending a little of it over, this way, so you can go on your
wheel when you come. The snow is pretty well away off if the clearances now, but it will be a
good spell before it is all away out of the woods. The ice you might say melted out. The mail
man crossed friday week with his horse in the morning, he walked back friday night and
saturday afternoon he got over in the little boat. There are wagons on the front road now, but
there is neither sledding nor wagoning in this way, ecuse my grammar. Hutchinsons mill is
running now, and some more of them are going to start pretty soon. Jims mill is sawing yet, they
have near all the birch they have hauled in cut. It is low land up there and there is a lot of water
on it.
They say he is going to haul the rest on wagons. He will have a hard enough job getting
his contract filled. Chiverston is up there cooking. Jo Nugent is home this good spell, and will is
working over in Black Brook. Michael Quigley is not so well again. I think old Martin Delaney is
getting better. I think [Doddey] is getting a little better. I think it must have been a straw kitten
and they gave her some gunpowder. There is pretty poor brook driving here the freshet being
very low, and the wages are smaller than they were at first. You should not expect me to write
near as much as you. I suppose John has enoug of other folk to write to. Tell him I saw the lad a
Saturday evening. There was another lad with her too. Send me word when you are coming and
I will have the mare fed up to go and meet ye. She is feeling alright but she dont get much oats.
Mike as you know is very good to her. Father was down at Bills last week. I think I will have to
wind her up for this time as I have no more news to write.
