To: Katie [Finlay?],

Dec [December?] 8th 97 [1897?]

My dear Katie
Imagine my delight
when I received a very
kind letter from John:
which I answered by
return mail. He is the same
good old sort, as when I
saw him. He speaks very
highly of your brother & says
he has grown up to be a
fine young fellow.
I cant let Xmas [Christmas?] go by with
out [without?] sending you my heart
felt [heartfelt?] wishes for good. You know
dear I look upon you
as the only girl friend I have
got & its a comfort to me
to think of you, which I
often do. We are now into
the almost never ending [never-ending?]
season of frost and snow. The
latter is every where [everywhere?]. From
where I am writing I can
see the peaks of the Rocky
Mountains all white &
glistening in the sun &
a very pretty picture they
make. The "Pig" is as
usual staring me out of
countenance as I write. He
sends his love to you! Poor
little chap I got out of Hospital
the other day, where I was
a week, & he stays with me all

the time & could scarcely be
got out for his meals.
Now I hope you will have
a good time at Xmas [Christmas?] & may
the New Year bring you every
blessing & happiness & this
wish is not only for yourserlf [yourself?]
but for all you care for in
this world.
Good bye [goodbye?] & God bless you
Your affectionate friend
Ernest Cochrane.
