Dr Parents
I received your Letter of the 21st of March of 1787 After Six or Seven Months Passage which Gave me the Greatest Pleasure and Satisfaction to hear you are all In health. I enjoy Good Health at Present thanks be To god for it. Iam sorry to hear trade is so bad, but I am in hopes it will Revive again. I am Likewise Sorry To hear of my Brother John’s Ill Luck with his Master And the Death of his Mistress, But Iwould advise you To keep him to his Trade. As for my part Istill Remn Contented And Satisfied In my Present Situation Ishall be free the of the Month Being then Three years from the time the Ship which I came In Cast Anchor In America. Ishall Like to follow My trade If Ican fall Into Business Other wise Ishall follow Plantation Work Except Some Easier Way of Life should Present itself However your Good advice would be very Acceptable to me In your Next Letter Which Ihope you will forward upon Receipt of this, This Country at Present Is quiet And Peaceable. Provisions are very Low And Money Very Scarce. Ilike the Country Better than Idid at my first Settlement here So Ithink Icould spend my Lifetime here And Though I have to work Harder here than at home my Wages being proportionable I Choose this Country Before my Native Country I think itis Preferable to Ireland for an honest Industrious Man yet Iwould not advise you to send any more Servants here As they Cannot Behave themselves better There are but four or five out of twenty And Upwards that Came to this part of the Country With me that have Stayed with their Masters, the Rest Ran away Some have Been taken up and Condemned to serve a Longer time, Ihave no more to write at Present But Conclude with my Love and Duty to my Grandmother And Desires for her Good Health and Long Life my Love to my Brothers & Sisters To My Cousin Zachariah And Margret My Aunt Deacon Cousin Polly and Nancy My Best Respects to Uncle Richard And to you In particular So
Remain your Dutiful Son
Daniel Kent
My love to All Enquiring Friend<s>
NB I should have wrote to you Before now but there is no Ships Sails from here In the winter-
