To The Worshipfull the Justices of the Court of Quarter Sessions for the County of Chester –
The Petition of Patrick M’Cullen
Most Humbly Sheweth
That your Petitioner on or about the Month of October in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and FiftyTwo came over to this Province from the Kingdom of Ireland an indented Servant for the Term of Four Years and was purchased by a certain Robert Allison of this County for the Sum of Fifteen Pounds. That your Petitioner served the said Robert faithfully and honestly for the Term of one Year, during which time the said Robert used your poor Petitioner in the most cruel and Barbarous Manner and frequently Beat whipt and abused your Pet.r most inhumanly without any reasonable Cause, so that he apprehended his Life to be in great Danger, that the s.d Robert often in the s.d solicited your Pet.r to execute an new Indenture to him for a longer Time and in Order to compel your Pet.r to comply with his unjust request, falsely charg’d him with committing a Rape on his Daughter a Child of six Years old and threaten’d to have him tried for his Life That your Pet.r at last tired out with the ill Usage of his s.d Master did consent to give a new Indenture for a longer Time but without any Consideration paid to him for that Purpose where upon the s.d Robert Allison in the Fall <of> Seventeen hundred and Fifty Three sold your Pet. r to James Benson of this County for the Term of Five Years for the Sum of Twenty Pounds, and your Pet.r to get out of the Power of the said Rob.t executed a new Indenture to the s.d James Benson for that Term accordingly. That your Pet.r having now served out the compleat Time of his first Indenture apprehends & is advised he is intituled both in Time Law and Justice to his Freedom, and humbly prays your Worship’s Relief in the Premisses and your poor Pet. as in Duty bound will ever pray &c
