| Transcript | Ann Dougherty, 25 August 1760 To the Honourable Court of Quarter Sessions held at Chester, &c. The humble Petition of Ann Dougherty Plainly Sheweth– That Your Petitioner (an Indigent Woman) about Six years ago was thro’ Necessity oblidged to transport her Self and three Small Children from Ireland to Pennsylvania; & not able to Defray the Expence of their Passage, was oblidged to bind them Servants to A Captain –Mullen, who was obligated that they Should be landed, and Serve in the Province of Pennsylvania; who after Landing, Sold one of them to Robert Powell, of the great Valley in Chester County. –Now the Said Robt Powell, without the Poor Womans Knowledge, has sold, and Delivered the Said Child to a Certain Trader, and Inhabitants of the Province of Virginia— Now— the humble Request of your Poor Petitioner, is, that the Honourable Court would take the matter into their Consideration; and if Robert Powels Proceedings, are Repugnant to the Laws of this Province, that they will give order for Redressing the Poor Womans Grievance; as they in their Wisdom Shall think most Proper For Which Your Petitioner Shall Pray, &c. – Whiteland. 25th 8th mo: 1760} |
