South Woodslee
Sept 17 1898

Dear People,
Once more I take
a few moments to write you
and I expect you are already
waiting for a letter
from me I have delayed
some two weeks in answering
your letter containing the
money order the only reason
being I expected another
this week. It is most
probable I'll get one on
Monday. I got a newspaper
this week I see you people
are at the shore so that
account [sic] for me not
receiving

another letter. I intended
waiting to next week but
I changed my mind.
I have not been very well
during part of this week
I took some sort of a sharp
cold or fever on Wednesday
morning so I left school and
was in bed that day and
next. I had Dr Brien of
Essex attending me. He
gave me some medicine and
to sweat the fever out Just
as you folks would do with
some punch and I dare
say it answer [sic] the purpose
just as well and is less
expensive. I was afraid
I was getting Typhoid fever
so I took an early precaution
I dont want to be in bed

for two weeks with any fever
I came down to Woodslee
this morning and I feel
pretty well again
I may perhaps have practiced
too much on the High School
Sports which I will mention
hereafter, and this may
have given me the cold, though
I only practiced the 100 yds
race and throwing the stone
(or putting the shot) the day
before. However I dont
mind having a few days
sickness as one usually
feels better afterwards
Well I suppose you know
by this time I started on
another year [sic] schooling. I
am taking up 1st class
work this year.

though we have done very
little yet and we will
hardly get down to solid
business until after the
Fair. We have a new science
teacher this year G Keith B A
He's a jolly good fellow and
all round athletic.
Our election this year were
dull but Xmas time will
make lively times, G Keith was
elected by acc. [acclaim?] so we
had no [fine?] in the Pres
[Press?] this year.
I was elected treasurer over
J W Batten by one vote. see
clipping for the others.
I intend to run for Pres.
[President?] at Xmas elections
