60 Grenville St Toronto,

My Dear Smythe,

I have just heard from Dr
Reaume that you have been appointed
licence inspector for Essex Co.
Congratulations, that shews [shows?]
what a man can do if he tries.
I was talking to Dr Reaume
this a.m. he may have something
better for Essex later so keep
your eyes open.
How are you getting along
anyway? I got thro [through?]
alright. When the results
came out they had handed

[Page 2]
me a star in surgery. but
I raised a big kick I knew
they were soaking me for my
independence during the year.
The result is that they have
given me the subject alright,
and now I am thro [through?].
I wish Jim you were in
Toronto I looked for you
down in Toronto at Easter
It would be great if (sic)
could get a Government job
in Parliament buildings.
They pay good salaries and
a good man will soon work
to the head of his department

[Page 3]
Now Jim. I wish I had
a good start myself. It
takes a lot of money to get
thro [through?], and then it
requires more to get started
I have a job. in Spragge
Township. up Northern
Georgian Bay. $100. a month
which I shall take, and
now I tell you what I
want you to do for me if
you will that is lend
me $25 for 1 mo. [month?]
or six wks. [weeks?]
and I will never forget
the obligation I shall
be under to you. Now I
want you to let me have
this amt. [amount?] if
you possibly

[Page 4]
can. I want $50 and I have
about $25 now so I am asking
you if you can lend it to me.
If you can send it to me as
soon as you can by return
mail if you can. I will send
my note with good interest for
1 month. I want to go up there
this week. Trusting that you
will oblige me I will look
for a letter this week from
you. Now Jimmy I want you
to do this and some day if
ever you need it I will help
you out financially if
required and otherwise at any
time Expecting to hear from
you in a day or two I remain
Ever your friend
H. M. Cooke
