Dear Sister

The last letter never [---?] [---?] [---?] [---?] [---?]
[stained] 12th 1783 gave us great pleasure to hear that
mother and [---?] are all alive and well --- have had no
account [---?] [---?] [---?] [stained] at the [---?] last
[---?] from Philadelphia. We have the account of the death
of our dear Father which gives us great [---?].

But Alas, Dear Sister, a greater than that [sic] has
[---?] upon me and children, and with heart rending grief
[---?] the unwelcome messenger with account of the Death of
my Dear and Loving Husband, who departed this uncertain life
July 5th last after a short but severe illness --- The
Fatigue or trouble of the late Unnatural Contest here threw
him into great weakness but for the most part kept about
until a fine day before he Died --- --- --- --- --- --- we
was in no business the times being so uncertain.

Last Spring we sold our House and [---?] of Lane and
Rented a Publick [public?] House, but Alas it did not please
the Almighty to Spare him long with me after

My Four Children is yet alive and Considering our Great
Loss as well as can be expected --- I keep the Public House
yet but how long I know not. My Husband being concerned in
Purchasing for the Army the Accompts [accounts?] are not yet
settled and how it is I know not but at present looks very
Dark ------ Treacherous and Self Interested men to dale
[deal?] with, and I unfit for the task, --- My Dear Mother
(if yet Living) It breaks my heart to send you this messenger
of Grief, You have lost a Dutiful Son, I have Lost a Loving
and Tender Husband, My Children have Lost an Indulgent and
Tender Father our Loss is great, but who can resist the will
of Divine Providence ------

Dear Sister it would give me great Satisfaction in the
continuance of the former Corrispondence [correspondence?]
while my husband was living For altho [although?] I am
amongst my Relations My only Friend is gone none can tell
the Loss of a dear husband but they that has suffered it ---

Dear Sister [-------?] [----?] respect to that be all of
you and your family as also Sisters and their Children ----
any Dutyful [dutiful?] Love to Mother (if alive) My Children
join in best wishes for Your Health and Welfair [Welfare?]
inhope [in hope?] of an answre [answer?] I remain your Mourning
Sister ------
