My dear James
Many a time since we
got your photo in Autumn.
I have been thinking of writing
to you but something always
transpired to frustrate my
good intentions. You could
not look anything but well
surrounded with so much
culture, youth and beauty.
The pleasing responsibility
of looking after so many
ladies must have a soothing
effect on the hard working
Principal. Coming down from
Complimenting the ladies
I must say a word about
yourself. You look grand
I Could scarcely recognise
the fine broad shouldered
man to be the same as the
little boy who said his
lessons at my desk in
Castledamph. To make a
long story short it is
a good photo and we are
all proud of it. Your
people are working hard on
the new farm they had a
great lot of flax this
year the harvest is very
unfavourable. We have
some of the oats unstacked
and it is now the 21st October.
We have Tom and John
occasionally. John has set
up his work bench in the late
Mr. Stewart s he is doing a
great deal of work for
the people round here.
I was telling him he
was very lonely down there.
We had the Plymouth Brethren
at Plumbridge during the whole
summer a great many of our
people and Mr. Steens [Steins?]
also attended the meetings
regularly, their preaching here
is rather unpalatable to the
surrounding Clergy. Bella has
a fine baby. They Call her
Madge a new name in the family.
We had a letter from Lillie to day.
She says She is Coming home
next fall . She likes the Americans
very Much. Lizzie has joined
Skerry s Correspondence Class.
I hope she will be successful
in getting into the Training College
in September.
The school is large at present they
have got a new school in Glenroan.
I think it will not be opened this
year. The compulsory clause of the
Education Act is in force in this
District it has a salutary effect
on the attendance.
I hope Mary is well she was a clever
little girl. I am sure her powers
are nothing diminished. You must
come home next year now that you
have reached the top rung of the
ladder . I am sure you can
afford a trip.

With love to Mary

Your affect [affectionate?] friend

M Dunne
