| Transcript | Government House. From Ld [Lord?] Ava Ottawa. Aberdeen [--?] 19th January 1894 My dear Mama. I have still been enjoying myself enormously here and the only trouble is to cram everything in that there is to do in a day. The last 3 nights we have not been in bed till getting on for four to five in the morning. One big dance and two romps. I played a great [----ing?] match the other day. My team against a [----?] at the Ridean Club in Ottawa. I had a O'Bukley, a Montreal man, to [----?]. He played a wonderful game & we won by one point after tying. 14 ends altogether. O'Bukley O'Buckley?] played a ["gatherey?"] game & scarcely missed a shot right through but he is one of the best curlers in Montreal. In the morning I have been learning some new dances with the help of some of the young ladies. Bob [--------?] has been coming too & we have a good deal of fun over it. Capt Hindersley & Bob & myself have been out a good deal in the evenings at charades & supper etc. There are an awfully good lot of sunny people in Ottawa but I do not think you would know any of them. Unless you remember Lady Ritchie. She has 3 very pretty daughters who all skate & dance beautifully. Their father is dead. Sir Adolphe Cann gave me a dinner the other night & Mrs Courtenay is giving me a dance next week. Their [---?] had a childrens skating & [-----------ing?] party the other day which went well. They wound up with fire works which was a new introduction. Yesterday their [---?] children did a play - bits taken out of David Copperfield. They are all very clever. Except [H---?] The second boy Dudley was awfully good as Mr Dick. The end of this week I go to Toronto for 3 days to a ball & probably a good deal of curling & some hockey. I am going to stay with a Major Costie. Mrs Kirkpatrick has asked me to go to them some time but I shan't be able to. The end of next week we go to Quebec for the carnival. Mr Dixon wants me to return here & stay with him but I dont know whether I shall or not. Probably I'll come back for a week. I started with the intention of getting up my figure skating but its gone to pieces lately. I wish you & the family were all here now. I remain my dear Mama Yours affectly [affectionately?] Archie |
