Transcript | Mr W.G. Smith Carrickmacross From: Lpool [Liverpool?] 22nd May 49 [1849?] Dear William. I have no doubt but Henry Grimes may make another call on you. He has just been to say he intends going Home by this nights Boat of course by the advice of his Friend Kiernan, who appears to have kept him from going per Ship "City of Lincoln" for Quebec last week-He wished to go to Boston or any where in the U. States, and handed me $2 in addition to your order, but this would not be accepted for his family to Boston I got him an offer of getting away to New Orleans this day, and his Friend would not permit him to go even there-Kiernan is I believe his Brother in law & therefore his councilor [councillor?]-I would not by any means stretch so far on good nature (as instanced in your directions to me as to enable him to choose his Destination-especially after loosing [losing?] part of his Findings Beds & Bedding &c having gone off in the Quebec Ship intended & put on board for his Family. John Murray & family are here waiting for some expected aid from some relation at Dundalk. M. Mahan & Wife have not yet got their chest but all their orders are included in the amt. [amount?] stated in abstract of a/c [account?] Sent you by Tom this afternoon. Should another such Ragged Lot be sent off the Estate at any time please let me know before hand if they require clothing so as I could have it managed more economically. In the late case time was short & they would not get on board till [until?] put in clean order, to effect which I had to employ 4 or 5 persons to collect cheap clothing, the Youngsters being numerous were the most difficult to suit with covering. Tom will be able to amuse you respecting some of their moves. All Friends here improve and all are anxious to know if they may expect you & the Youngsters. Yours very truly Thos [Thomas?] Elliot Mr W.G. Smith |
