Harrow, Oct. 27, 1902
J. Smyth
Essex, Ont.

Dear Sir
You will doubtless remember that I
spoke to you concerning Essex school where [when?] you
were in Harrow with the Essex football boys. I
intended speaking to you again at Convention but as there
is to be no meeting this fall; I take the liberty of writing
to you.

If it is at all probable that you will quit
the job in the near future or even by next July let me
know in time so that I may have a chance to work for
the position. I have several reasons for wishing to step into
your shoes and I am not the only one either, so if you
will do me this favour I shall consider myself under an
obligation to you. In case a vacancy should occur I
think I might stand as good a show as anyone else. However
so long as you continue to hold the position I shall not in
any way seek to press my own case.
Hoping to hear from you at an early date.

I am
Respectfully Yours,
W.J Elliott
