Transcript | South East Corner of 13th & Fitzwater Street Philadelphia August 26th 1876 Mrs Clarke Madam It is my duty as one of the Executors of your deceased brother Matthew Brooks of whose death April this year I hear you have had information sent you, to say to you that by his last will he leaves you a legacy of two thirds of his Estate probably amounting to upwards of £400 sterling consisting principally of Cash - It will require some time to settle the Estate say in one year from his death. As but few claims have come to my knowledge against his Estate I anticapte no difficulty. It may be proper for you however to have an Attorney to represent you I have employed one, and if you desire it I shall ask him to prepare a letter of Attorney for you to have Executed properly before the legal Authorities there, so that there may be no unnecessary delay when the Estate is being settled in your getting your money. Your brother left the other 1/3 of his Estate to his neice Mrs Clarke and appointed her husband Mr Robert Clarke the other Executor. You can either appoint him, or the Attorney that I employ, or such other suitable person as you think desirable to act for you. Please answer and give me such directions as you think advisable and if I can be of service to you in any way I shall take pleasure in complying with your requests. I am Madam Very Respectfully Yrs [Yours?] Thomas Fair Answer that Mr Wilson is your attorney who has probably made himself known. Direct your letter to Thomas Fair Grocery Store S.W.
