My Dear cousin
I received your Welcome
P.C [Postcard?] the other week and I was
very pleased to hear from you but
felt ashamed of my self [myself?] for not
answering your letter before but
I hope to be able to keep better
correspondence after this I am still
in Westford I have been here for
about 18 months now and I am
doing pretty well I have been
in constant work ever since I
been here this is the greatest coal
port in New Zealand they export
about 12,000 tons of coal a week
and they expect to double the
export in about two years they are
now opening at a new mine which I [sic]
they started about a year ago
and they will be finished in about
a year I might state it is the finest
steam coal in the southern hemisphere
but they are greatly hampered with
a river port which large vessels
cant come in. I am only fifty
miles from home and it takes me
about 5 hours to ride through on a
bike I was up home in june
and. I will be home for christmas
May mother sister and Brother
are all in good health Will
is still in Wellington he is doing
fairly well his wife and three
children I dont think there
will be any fear of me getting tied
up for some time yet although the [there?]
are some nice girls here which they
all barrack me about I will try
and get a view of the buller gorge
and send you one that is between
here and reefton that is some of
the finest scenery in New Zealand
Mr and Miss blakely often ask
after my Aunties in america and
cousins in Ireland they are
getting very old and feeble now
Mr Blakely was a great mate
of my father in the early day
of the coast and school boy together
at home and they are very
pleased to see me every time
I go out to see them they live at
[capefoilwing?] about seven miles out
Well dear cousin news is very scarce
to I will say Au Revoir for the
present hoping to hear from you soon
and will remain your loving
cousin G M. Farrelly
