Transcript | To:- Mr David McLorg N.L.Vady [Newtownlimavady?] County of Londonderry Ireland Philadelphia 17th Oct 1837 Dear Mother & Brothers I now take this favourable opportunity of writing you a few lines hoping they will find you in good health as we are now at Present thanks be to God for his mercies William was very sick all spring but he is getting better business of all Kinds was very dull and work was very scarce and markets very high this summer which was a great loss to us I have heard no account from Brother Brother John nor William since June last. Robert Stewart and Sam came here on June and told me that my brothers were both well and Sam Stewart got his mothers legacy which was 60 dollars Brother William was married one year ago and lives 50 miles up the river from york and I intend to write to them shortly again william was visiting me often Last summer, I received your letter Informing me that my Father was dead which gave me a great deal of troble [trouble?] I always hear different accounts from people coming in which gives me a satisfaction that my Brothers are all doing well, I hope all my friends are well at present as then nothing can Give me more pleasure than hearing from you all, Brother David Generally had a notion of coming here but I would advise him to stay at home as there is more difficulty in making money here than people is aware of Mr David Jones is well and lives within 2 squares of us and I see him very often and have been the hous [house?] he lives in and he keeps a tavern Mrs Ross has been very Poorly this few Weeks back but she is getting better I always see her every week William Ross and family is well and Margaret Ann Carr is well and living in Philadelphia John dunlap is Married and doing well and his Brother Alexander is gone to the county Jeorge Jonest is gone to the West about one year ago but we expect him here in the fall Alexander Thompson and Family is well John adams and Family is all well Let Mrs Pursley know that her daughter Jane is landed here safe and well and spent a night with me, Dear Brothers I have not much of Importance to write to you at Present but I hope you will write a letter as soon as this goes to hand as I will be uneasy to hear from you all especially my Mother which hear is very fraill [frail?] at present you will please direct to the care of Mrs Ross Elizabeth street no more more at present but remember me to all enquiring friends to Brother Alexander and Wife and family To Brother David and Wife and Family To uncle Sam and Famly [family?] To Uncle Robert and Family To Cousin John and Wife But Remains your affec[tionate?] son and daughter to death ------------ Wm [William?] and Ann Forrest PS I never heard from my Brother Robert this five years which makes me very uneasy you will please let Cousin John Pollock and Wife know that David Jonest is well and often heard him say that they were the best friends he had hopes to see Ireland in as short time the more I think he is doing will [well?] |
