LONDONDERRY MAR 1 9.30 a.m. '98 3 0 MA 14 98 (Copy of the envelope of the first letter from Mary) 140 Sheffield St., ALLEGHENY P.A. U.S.A Feb 29th '98 Revd. Sir, Please pardon the liberty a stranger takes in thus addressing you but as I do not even know your name I merely trust to your generosity to reply to this. If you will kindly send me your name and address I will mail you five dollars of our country money being one pound english money to repay you in case you can send me the desired information about Joseph Robinson, at the time in the employ of Robert Campbell and later, with Capt. John McConnel, and then with David Bredin in the parish of Tullyarden Culmore. I am his daughter Mary and for fifteen years know nothing of my father or brother. In this country I married and lost sight of my own people. If they are still alive I would be glad to find their address. Canon Stackwas rector when I was a child and my dear mother is buried some where near the old ivy covered wall of the church. I have a wish to go home to revisit Culmore but I do not know if I have any relatives there. My father married again and I did not get along with my stepmother. When, as a child, I left them, I know I had one brother who was sent to Gwyn's Institution in the city of Derry. My dear husband died seven years ago and I am pretty well of [off?] so would be glad to learn something of my people. I cannot send you either money or stamps as I don't even know your name but as a follower of my master I trust you will reply when I send you what I say. Yours Sincerely MRS. MARY GIBSON (Formerly Mary Robinson) 140 SHEFFIELD ST. ALLEGHENY. U.S. AMERICA |
