Castledamph
April 21st 1892

Dear Cousin
In reply to
your letter which I received
in due time and was glad to
hear from you again we have
very fine weather here this
last few weeks the people are
getting on well with the labour
about here the potatoes will be
all in this week it is a very
nice time now for the young
lambs but the [they?] are very
troublesome this spring a good
many of the ewes has scarcely
any milk I think sheep was never
so cheap as they are now you could
buy good year olds for 8/6 each

[Page 2]
I think W [Willie?] J Duncan and
his cousin is for going out there
about the 29th of this month I think
he is going into College when he gets
there you should try it too I think
you be as able as any of them do you
know have they any thing to pay going
in or are they sure to get a situation
when they are leaving it I was thinking
about going to America but I have not
made up my mind what time to go yet or
to what place do you think is
the pay better in the country than
in the city have you heard

[Page 3]
how William Hayes is doing or any thing
about him Jane Dunne and Kate Orr has left
this [sic] on Friday last and Thomas Kirk
is away for a great legacy I think old
Margaret’s money will not do the people
much good it was put into some kind of
shares and they say now that they will
only get two hundred in place of nine so
that will not be much for each when it is
divided among them all I have not seen Beck
Dunne since you left I think she is at
home now one of her

[Page 4]
her [sic] sisters is going to get married soon
I suppose you have a lot of sweethearts over
there and nice ones too I am sure but you
have not forgot the ones at home yet I suppose
Alice is the one you call your principle
[principal?] one I have not been speaking to
Minnie Duncan since you must excuse me for not
writing sooner
I am not much at home now as we have no horse
and when we get one I have too [to?] go two
days for that one I have no more to say at
present
But remains your loving Cousin
William Gilkison [Gilkinson?]
Write soon
