Transcript | [Front of Envelope] Mr James Alex Smyth Southwoodslee Box 23 Essex County Ontario Canada [Stamped] N.T.Stewart D AP 21 92 Ireland [Written at top and left side] Answered 21/4/92 [Back of Envelope] [Stamped] Plumbridge C AP 21 92 [Stamped] Hamilton ONT 5 MY 3 [92?] [Canada?] [Page 1] Castledamph April 21st 1892 Dear Cousin In reply to your letter which I received in due time and was glad to hear from you again we have very fine weather here this last few weeks the people are getting on well with the labour about here the potatoes will be all in this week it is a very nice time now for the young lambs but the [they?] are very troublesome this spring a good many of the ewes has scarcely any milk I think sheep was never so cheap as they are now you could buy good year olds for 8/6 each [Page 2] I think W [Willie?] J Duncan and his cousin is for going out there about the 29th of this month I think he is going into College when he gets there you should try it too I think you be as able as any of them do you know have they any thing to pay going in or are they sure to get a situation when they are leaving it I was thinking about going to America but I have not made up my mind what time to go yet or to what place do you think is the pay better in the country than in the city have you heard [Page 3] how William Hayes is doing or any thing about him Jane Dunne and Kate Orr has left this [sic] on Friday last and Thomas Kirk is away for a great legacy I think old Margaret’s money will not do the people much good it was put into some kind of shares and they say now that they will only get two hundred in place of nine so that will not be much for each when it is divided among them all I have not seen Beck Dunne since you left I think she is at home now one of her [Page 4] her [sic] sisters is going to get married soon I suppose you have a lot of sweethearts over there and nice ones too I am sure but you have not forgot the ones at home yet I suppose Alice is the one you call your principle [principal?] one I have not been speaking to Minnie Duncan since you must excuse me for not writing sooner I am not much at home now as we have no horse and when we get one I have too [to?] go two days for that one I have no more to say at present But remains your loving Cousin William Gilkison [Gilkinson?] Write soon Transcribed by Chris Devenney |
