Castledamph
December 15th 1892

Dear Cousin
In answer to
your letter of Dec 6 I am glad
[sic] say that we are all well
here at present hoping that this
will find you enjoying good health
I suppose you have heard about the
riot that was here on the last fair
night it was the worst row that
took place about the roadside
this long time and there is a good
many getting blame that had nothing to
do in [with?] it at all the Reids
has not came in to our house since
but we dont care much

[Page 2]
whether ever they come in at all
or not it will not be a big
loss William Reid is not better
yet but I think he is not so bad
as they say If all they say is true
it will be as big a lawsuit as
McConnel and the partners all this town
and good part of Eden will be in it this
time I see by your letter you have not
engaged Y [yet?]with your Uncle this time
I suppose farming is not a nice job
there nore than here you talk about learnig
[learning? Operating but we dont know what
it means at all when you write again let me
know what

[Page 3]
it is like Uncle John got a letter from Uncle
Willie in Liverpool a few weeks ago and he says
that his two oldest boys is working at the
Railway but he did not say what they were
doing I think they get 18/ per week. Sarah
A Duncan should be near through College
now if ever she gets through at all but it
cant be as easy getting through as some people
think Cassie is a very nice writer she can
write as nice a letter as ever I saw I dont
know who Uncle James was going to get married
to it must have been all lies

[Page 4]
he is not married yet anyway nor no talk about
it do you get any letters from back eden [sic]
now I suppose you get none from Uncle John now
either I think that these Orangemen that has got
made will conduct themselves better than some of
the old ones I have a notion of joining myself but
not for a while yet I have not signed the temperance
pledge yet nor I think wont for with Gods help I
can keep from drinking better than some of them
that has down their names Have you signed it yet
it seems they have better rules there than here
you will be likely to get in at some of the places
you have to try yet I have no more to say [at?]
present hoping you will have a merry xmas and a
happy new year.
William Gilkison [Gilkinson?]
