Transcript | [Front of envelope] Mr James A Smyth Southwoodslee Lock Box 4 Essex Co Ontario Canada [Written above address] Rec [Received?] Dec 2 1893 [Written below address] Ans [Answered?] Dec [7?] [Back of envelope] [Stamped] PLUMBRIDGE C NO 9 93 [Stamped] HAMILTON NO 20 93 CANADA [Stamped] SOUTH WOODSLEE NO 21 93 ONT [Written upside down at bottom] Ans [Answered?] Dec 7 1893 [Page 1] Castledamph November 9th 1893 Dear Cousin In answer to your letter which I received a few weeks ago I was glad to hear of you being well and getting back safe from the worlds fair [World’s Fair] I suppose you saw a great deal while you were there it must have taken a great lot of money to put up such large buildings I think they will not have much profit when all is done you are apt to have heard about [Page 2] Willie [William?] Ballantine and James Reid boxing on the Plum [Plumbridge?] fair night they were at the Bench and were fined in 10/0 [10s} each We have very nice weather here at present there is some frost but no snow as yet it is a good time for the sheep we have them all on Uncle James’s hill now your ones has all the old sheep on it and the lambs at home there is [sic] a good many of them [tipped?] now I think we will keep them on it all winter if the snow does not be too heavy (Page 3) Bella Maggie and Tilda is at a quilting to doday [today?] in Micky Daveys [Davey’s] and me and William will be for it at night so it will be the first spree for us this winter I am keeping house to day [today?] we have a litter of young pigs so I can hardly get writing two lines at once I hope you had a good halloweve [Halloween?] it was a very poor one here no fun at all There is going to be a [Soiree?] in John McFarlands letterbratt [Letterbrat?] on the 24th [of?] November [Page 4] how is Willie John and Sarah Anne getting along what kind of a situation has Sarah Anne got into I have not got the addresses you wanted yet I asked one of the boys about them and he said he would sent [send?] them over to me but they did not come yet it is a shame for me to not have written sooner but you must excuse me for my carelessness we are all well here at present hoping you are in good health too I have no more to say at Present But remains your loving cousin Willie Gilkison [William Gilkinson?] write soon again Transcribed by |
