Castledamph March 30 98 Dear Cousin In answer to your letter which I received a few weeks ago was glad to hear from you once more. We are all well here at present the weather has been very stormy here this last few weeks but it looks better today The people are joining to sow the corn but the ground is not very dry yet there was very little snow or frost [this?] winter The sheep are beginning to lamb now I have got 3 and expects (sic) a few more to day [today?] they are very cheap this year you could buy good ewes for about 14/6 each Tommy bought some in the last Plum [Plumbridge?] fair at 15/ each but they are good young sheep We got all the road money this time only about [Four?] [Pounds?] I suppose by this time you have heard about Bella Duncan and Nox [Knox?] getting married There was two songs made on them and they are [very?] angry about it I will tell you a couple of lines of one of then. [them?] The Knoxes are worse than foxes Theres not a hole in ones frame but they know I cant [can t?] mind any more of it but I will get them and send them to you some other time. We expect Miss Dunbar up at Easter Tilda had a letter from Beck yesterday and she says they will pay us a visit. You want to know who gave me the news about Miss Ballantine well it was Maggie McFarland but I cant [can t?] say it is all true I believe she is in an infirmary at present and is not expected to recover she has cosumption [consumption?] I suppose you will be sorry to hear this They say she did not take care of her health she would stop out very late at night withe [with?] the boys We have quit the shop this last month and I think we are better without it at any rate there is less trouble but it is very hard to get in all the debt without putting on costs on the people you were talking about Miss Dunbars [Dunbar s?] adress [address?] I suppose she has not wrote to you since she left Eden she likes the place very well I have no more to say at present But remains your loving cousin Willie Gilkison excuse mistakes and bad writing Please write soon again Miss M J Dunbar Carnone National School Raphoe Co Donegal Carnone N.
