Transcript | Summerville near Augusta March 23 1875 W. J. C. Allen Esq Belfast Ireland Dear Sir I wrote you last on the 16th Decr and have recd [received?] one from sister acknowledging the receipt of mine which you were so kind as to forward. She said you were kind to give her money to prepare her for the seaside, but did not say whether she went or not. She said she was doing well but not quite satisfied with her boarding place - but I have my doubts on the subject, and will be more gratified to hear through you of her - she seemed to think she could be more comfortable to provide her own provisions, but I think quite the contrary - and shall write her so - I requested J. J. Bean to send you œ30 for the last month, which I hope you have recd [received?] by this time. I have not recd [received?] my money from him yet but am to get half year's interest first of next month - when her years annuity is deducted I shall have very little coming in to me, what will pay one yrs [years?] Rent for me. To make matters still worse my House in Town Rented for $600 to Cousin Henry's (Dr. H. F. Campbell) daughter her husband has failed and no Rent for me, this a great loss to me & will put me out very much. Please excuse me for troubling you with my affairs, but it is a relief to have someone to tell it to, and I am very lonely now no one to consult with or advise me. If I had my legacy at present I would be afraid to put it in the Bank here everything is so unstable and stocks going down & failures in everything Upon the whole, Real Estate is the best to invest even at high rate. It could not be made away with. Can you give me a word of advice on the subject, & be kind enough to do so. I shall look anxiously for a letter from you in reply to my last of December. Wishing you & your family every health & happiness. Respectfully yours G. O. Giltenan Please address to care of Mr Thos. [Thomas?] W. Coskery. |
