Belfast.

Dear Sir
With much
sorrow I inform you that my beloved
Uncle is no more. He entered into Eternal
rest on Sunday the 3rd day of this month
but four weeks to the very day on which
we arrived here. Ever since his
severe attack of illness last winter in
Augusta I felt that his life hung on
a slender thread that at any time
might snap asunder.
Altho' his death was an event
I expected I feel the desolation
and bereavement. He is the last of
my family that I could look up to
for advice or consolation and
his sympathy & affection was
largely bestowed on me.
He was confined to his bed only
a week, did not suffer any pain -
in speaking of this he remarked to
a friend "The Lord had been very good
to him in that particular he suffered
no pain only weakness-"
At he age of 86 years & within a few
days of 4 months he has laid down
the cross and I humbly trust has
received the victors crown
I shall remain here with
three of my Brother James' boys the eldest
having been at College in North Carolina
since the finish of this year. - until
October, when I shall go down
the country to my Brother Dr. R. Carroll
in Twiggs County, take the boys to
their mother for a short time -
My Uncle's Will was published in
the Augusta papers. When I get one
I will sent it to you if someone
has not sent it to you already
I was in too much trouble to think
of it, at the time, & every one supplied
themselves. I have written for back
numbers of the paper &c. -
Will you transfer to me the favor
you have so long conferred on my
dear departed Uncle that of supplying
my poor sister with the requisite
funds for her support. I think a
letter from you would reach her thro' W. Wethered
of Cromac St. I do not know how
to address her, she will have her usual
annuity. I have troubled you
with a long letter but I feel I know
that I am writing to the long cherished
friend of my venerable & beloved Uncle
And the friendship which has lasted
thro' so many eventful years of his life
shall be cherished by me with
emotions of grateful remembrance
of you & yours -
G. O. Giltenan
P.S. Letters will reach me
directed to care of Dr. H. F. Campbell
