Transcript | Strasburg Pa [Pennsylvania?] Paid 5 Sept 16 George Graham Esq Care of John Stephenson Esq Fort William [Fortwilliam?] Near Tobermore Parish of Ballynascreen Londonderry Ireland Strasburg Septr 14th 1848 Dear Brother George Yours of the 17th January last I received about the 1st of March, and it gave sincere pleasure to hear that you are all well and doing well. Your letter would have been answered before this, but has been put off from time to time as is generally the case with persons not much in the habit of writing. You mention in yours that your son George is in America, I have had several letters from him, the last was dated August 4th 1848 he was then living in Dungannon, State of Ohio were [where?] he had been for some time, but intended to go in a short time to Maysville to see his Cousin George. I have never heard from Thomas' son George only through your son George writing to me. We have had a very fine season Grain of all kinds is very plenty. I am living in Strasburg Lancester County about 50 miles West of Philadelphia, and within Four miles of the Rail road [railroad?] from Philadelphia to Columbia. Should any of our friends coming to this country wish to see me by taking the Rail road at Philadelphia for Le---- Place they would be landed within 4 miles of this and it would give me great pleasure to see them. As to my circumstances I have not much to say the property that belonged to my son in law [son-in-law?] has been sold I am still living there and getting along as well as I can, my Granddaughter is keeping house for me. I am left pretty near alone in the world, the one who is keeping house for me and two of my youngest daughters children are all that are left to me now. The last account I had #PAGE 2 of Alexanders family they were all well. Not having anything more to say on my own account I would request your earnest and particular attention to the enclosed letter of Mr Bowens, the circumstances are pretty fully detailed in his letter, and I can say nothing more about them than that since Mr Bowens letter was written it has been ascertained that the "Andrew Ferguson" alluded to as having died lately in this country came to this country in the Year 1802 in the Ship Active, Captn Stephenson from Londonderry this may be of importance, Mrs Stewart is an aged woman and in but middling cercumstances [circumstances?], your immediate atention [attention?] to the matter would confer a lasting favor, and she will pay whatever necessary expense you may [meet?], Will you please attend to it immedeately [immediately?] on the receipt of this and give the result of your enquiries as soon as possible. Mrs Greenleaf the daughter of Martha Stewart (late Martha Charles) intended to write to you herself but having understood that I was going to write she requested me to include the above in my letter No more at present I give my best and kindest wishes to all my friends and remain Yours affectionately George Graham James Graham P.S. My address is Strasburg Lancaster County Pennsylvannia U S America. You can either direct to me or in accordance to the directions in Mr Bowens letter |
