Transcript | McDonald Washington Co Pa [Pennsylvania?] 28th Oct 1889 Dear Lytle Yours of the 24th duly received this morning. With reference to my being a T.T. [teetotaller?] I need only say that I have been so for some time and am determined to continue so as I am convinced that it is by far the better plan in every way - if I had not a solemn determination to abandon all such indulgences I would not say so; but you may depend upon it I have seen the folly of all such & am going to profit by it too. I an well aware of what you say that a person may not think much harm in taking an occasional drink & even there was no harm where is the benefit? so that the only safe and sure way is not to touch it at all. I cannot indeed but thank you for the kind offer you make and will indeed be glad to embrace it. So if you send me a Postal Order for $12.00 I think that would be enough, and possibly I might be able to obtain a ticket for even less than that as I know two young fellows from here who got their tickets for $22.60 and believe through McCormack of Pittsburgh I can get it at the lowest figure obtainable and of course I would rather travel over the Fort Wayne Road than over the Pennslyvania Road, this of course would make it come lighter on you and answer the same pursose [purpose?], besides I would have to go into Pittsburgh to get a few little things that I require. Awaiting your reply - with the further assurance that drink through me will not be cause of any trouble to you I remain Yours sincerely John L Hall. |
