Transcript | To: Lytle Black, 342 Winchester Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. Mc Donald Washington Co [County?] Pa [Pennsylvania?] 9th Decr [December?] 1889 Dear Lytle I am sure you will indeed think me very ungrateful for not writing you before now; but to tell you the truth I have been knocked around so much this last month going out to the country to night school & not getting home till about 11 OC [o'clock?] at night so you have no idea what it is tramping muddy roads up to one's knees weather like this, and add to the trouble we lost our School Room out there so I have been running back & forth trying to get another fitted up so expect to have things in going order this coming week__ of course I am not making a fortune out of it; but will be satisfied if I can make ends meet. I save a little to bring me out of this in a month or two so I don't think you need expect me before early Spring; but if I could make a raise before that I would not stay here an hour longer that I could avoid. You need not be afraid of me spending any money foolishly for my sole aim is to save up all I can and get out of here as soon as possible, for there is no infatuation for me here. I hope you are doing well & if you are doing half as well as I would wish you to do you would have no cause to complain. I hope to be able to reach your City very soon & may say there is nothing would give me more pleasure than meeting you, Maggie & the children once more Thanking you for your past kindness & good wishes. I remain Yours Sincerely John L Hall P.S. Drop me another line or two and give little particulars about how you are doing & like the town you are in |
