Wm. J. C. Allen Esq Ulster Bank
Belfast Ireland

Dear Sir
I duly received
your esteemed favour of the 19th Jan., with
enclosures as stated, for which you
have my thanks. I enclose receipt for your
remittance of œ13.18.3 The receipts were
all in order and I regret the trouble
you were subjected to in procuring
them. By this time you will have
received from Messrs. J. & J. Stuart of New York
bill for œ30 from Mrs Grace O Giltenan
for the use of her sister Miss Lucinda
Carroll - and a bill from proceeds of
$2525 for distribution amongst the
Legatees of Mr. Campbell pro rata upon
their respective amounts, as stated in my
letter of the 11th or 17th of Dec. last. I hope
very soon to be able to send the balance
$2525 and I will now explain the cause
of my disappointment and delay. In the
month of June last I sold a piece of
property in the city for $9,000 payable 3,000
1st July,[--?] 1st Oct, and 3,000 1st Jun. 1875.
The two first payments were duly made, but
upon preparing to make a deal for the
final payment the claim of titles
was found incomplete and is not yet
perfected. This money was intended for
the Irish Legatees, and had it been paid
the full amount of $5050 was to have
been remitted in June. The lacking deeds
have been traced, and a demand made
for them, but it may require an order
of court to obtain them, in which event
there may be two or three months further
delay. The purchaser has ten times the
amount due, on deposit in the Bank
of which I am cashier, and is ready
and anxious to to pay as soon as titles
can be perfected. In the meantime
I am offering other property
for sale to pay the balance due though
you, and about $15000 more to be
paid in this city. - and I have good
reason to think I shall be able to
send the $2525 to you by or before
the 1st of April next. I trust this
explanation will satisfy all the Legatees,
and you may safely assure any who
may feel the least anxiety that the
delay is but temporary, and the full
payment is certain.
Very truly yours
J. J. Bean
Executor
Mrs Bean was delighted to hear of Mrs Allen
and she promised a note to accompany my letter,
but she is now absent on a visit to our
oldest son, the Rev. Wm. [William?] S. Bean,
Washington.
I saw Miss Hannah Longstreet in Church
on Sunday, looking quite well, but did
not have an opportunity of speaking
to her.
Very truly
J. J. Bean.
