Transcript | Montreal 22nd Nov 1836 Dear Thomas I rec'd your letter of the 15th of Oct and observe its contents, I am no little astonished at Mr Peebles demand as I settled everything with him of debt which I had incurred & which would be incurred after I was gone in presence of my brother Wm [William?] as I told him to do before. 2nd Mr Wakefield purchase Money and even paid him for stamps that he was to have concealed and paid over to whoever I would authorise to receive it. [mor?] these circumstances, I will not allow Mr Peebles to be paid any money on my acct [account?], and [Saml?] though can't stop my money without my authority as he must know stoppage is no payment which as an attorney he must know, in fact I will not allow it. having paid Peebles all I had to pay him before I left the country, you will please apply to Mr Knox for the amt [amount?] if my dividend and remit[?] it to me, if you please without delay. I am sorry to give you so much trouble, what [over?] a small payment, and I may say what a [Bother?] S. Knox has made a good job it for himself, if he will not pay it you must sue him, I again say pardon my troubling you so much, but you are the only friend I would trust to do my business & I am still in an unsettled way to expansion to live here and support a family in fact I am poor but able to do my turn. I have come through a sea of trouble since I came to this country, still the Lord has kept my head above the waters. Sarah & I is [are?] glad to hear of her mother living well and join in love to her when you see her and let her know we never enjoyed] George & Seton is [are?] in Troy at present & Wm [William?] at a trade in this town, so all we have at home with us is the two youngest Richd [Richard?] & Sarah who are both well Expecting soon to hear from you I remain your sincere friend Jas Heather |
