Transcript | Millvale. Jan. [January?] 2nd 1860 My dear Anne, I may say you have compelled me to write an acknowledgement of the handsome compliments of the Season which you sent me on Christmas Day and New Year's day. There is one thing I don't understand what it is intended for, and that is the scarlet ribbon, but this you can explain to me when we meet. I was relieved of much anxiety when I heard of the safe arrival of William and his agreeable wife at New York, for their voyage was anything but a pleasant one. I think he condemns the vessel unjustly for what vessel could run smooth in such boistrous weather. William should rather praise the vessel which took them safe to America. I hope William got all the matters doing well at home and that his young men give a good account and true, of themselves during his absence, and to his satisfaction. Every note I have from them is in some part of it "No arrival of Anne yet". Belfast is such a gay place that you cannot draw yourself away from it after so much gaiety. You will require sometime to recruit yourself in a place like Mr. McNeilly. It is uncertain when Mary McAllister may arrive there, I had a note from her yesterday and she has a cold. I have got rid of my cold but keep much about home. The Dr. [doctor?] allows me three or four hours in the middle of the day when fine to take exercise and pay visits a short distance from home and I keep as near to his order as I possibly can. A note from David lately, they were all expecting to hear from you as to the sending of the Car for you. My time is up for the post, I am Yours sincerely James Henderson. |
