Transcript | EMIGRANT LETTERS. Papers of Prof. E.R.R. Green. [The following letters were sent to Dr. Green by Miss I. Embleton, secretary to the Ulster-Scot Historical Society, Chichester Street, Belfast. She received them in connection with a request for family research from Mr. E. G. Burnside of Toronto, Canada. The Beatty family concerned were settled in Corlough, Aghalurcher Parish, County Fermanagh, in early 18th century.] 1. June 5th, 1874. Dear brothers, I sit down for the first opportunity to write yous (sic) a few lines to let you know I am well hoping to find yous (sic) in the same we were very (sic) to hear from you and hear you talking about coming home for I would like to see you both Mother would like to see you for she says that many a time she prayed for yous (sic) and she thinks the Lord heard her prayer. Dear brothers William is far from us today he is in New York two years again October next he is doing well he is with cousin Scholars he is a good schollar [scholar ?] the crops are doing very well this season let me know what kind of crops there is there I spoiled that writing for my hand is getting out of practise [practice]. Our country is mending (sic) please James let me know where you where them two years and not be sending half a sheet but every one of yous (sic) send a sheet and writ [write ?] very soon there is a good deal gooing out to America from this country on the cheap passage George and John are well and Cousins are well I would not Know yous (sic) if I were to see yous (sic) would not know the country it is improved let me know is there any churches there or places of worship I would like yous (sic) to write to brother William he would be very glad to heare [hear ?] from yous (sic) well his directions or adress [address ?] is this William Ritchard [Richard ?] Beatty No. 370...9th Avenue New York America Please excuse me for this scribble so no more at present but remains your brother write soon. adieu Noble Beatty |
