Transcript | Letter from William Hutton, Toronto, dated February 8th 1857 to John McCrea Junior, Strabane. Deposited by Messrs. Wilson & Simms, Solicitors Toronto Sunday night near 2 o'clock Febry. [February?] 8th 1857 Dear John, I send you the within Dag. [daguerrotype?] of the dear fellow my much beloved son - His noble forehead manly countenance & [and?] expressive eye are admirably given - a more correct likeness could scarcely be produced - you may all like to be able to form some idea of what he was - but what he was to us we cannot even yet ourselves by any means correctly estimate - we seem to feel his loss more deep by each succeeding day - Dear Fanny & [and?] the girls bear their bereavement wonderfully His smiling placid peaceful love = full death [---?] was a powerful soother of our sorrow - We writed dear love to all dear friends around you - I wrote to Sarah by last mail I will write soon again Willie is waiting to take this to the post office - the mail goes out tomorrow morning & [and?] you will have this on the morning of the 23rd - Yesterday was the anniversary of our dear old fathers death - we little thought a Son & [and?] Grandson would follow him within one year - It warns us to look carefully forward to see who may be the next to follow - Heaven grant we may be found "watching" when our time comes - Your loving brother William Hutton. |
