Transcript | To: Revd [Reverend?] G. [George?] K [Kirkpatrick?] Hazelbank Ballymena Ireland From: W. H. V. [West Hoathley Vicarage?] Sep 6/[18?]59 My dear George Although I think I have written to you since the receipt of your last, yet as I feel a deep interest in the work of the LORD wh [which?] is going on in your parts, I am anxious to obtain the Most authentic information I write a few lines by the way of [provoke?] Besides the little tracts wh [which?] you kindly sent me I have had much information in the "News of the Churches" and other publications on the progress & fruits of the Revival - few except scoffers and some Infidels, I believe now question that it is, at least to a great extent The work of GOD the Holy Ghost but still there are some still distrustful, and prone to dwell upon, if not to magnify what appear to them the questionable features of the movement Among them y[--]r [your?] brother, A.S.Lee, at the Glebe. Seeing his advertisement soliciting help to build a New Ch [Church?] I wrote to him asking if his opinion of the Movement were [?] changed or Modified since we met on the 1st June he wrote saying that doubtless there had been #PAGE 2 a work of G. [God?] but much mixed with & Marred by what was Satanic and evil. he cautioned me against receiving as true the Newspaper reports which Magnified the favourable cases keeping back all that was unfavourable lest it should hinder the sale of the Papers he says that reaction has already begun. & that at the fair of Ahoghill on the preceding Friday there had been according to the Sergeant of Police more Drunkeness than for many fairs past he is told that there will be during the coming year a large increase in his Parish of illegitimate births, & that the scenes wh [which?] Nightly take place in the streets of Belfast are a Scandal to religion - can you endorse this sad testimony he recommends me to read a pamphlet of Archdeacon Stopfauls on the bodily affections which are clearly proved to be hysterical. if you have got the [?] will to lend it to me & I will post it back when read. The acc[----]ts [accounts?] wh [which?] I have seen are all favourable. those from Coleraine are deeply interesting Hav you read Dr. M-ies [?] acc[----]t [account?] of the Revival. it places together in a more permanent form Much that I have already seen, with additional information from the agents of the First Evangl Socy [Evangelical Society?] Have you read "The power #PAGE 3 of Prayer" by Dr Prince, being a Most interesting account of the rise - progress & fruits of the American Revival - The Price is 2/. but if you send Wistal 21 Burnes St [Street?] 22 Stamps, he will see [send?] it to you post free. Do get it. I see by the Paper that Robt [Robert?] Maguire has been over & gave his people last Sunday 1 3/4 hour sermon on the text, "why shoult it be thought a thing incredible with you that GOD should raise the dead" The Bd [Board?] of Winchester too is gone over to pay you a visit - Post hour is near so I must conclude with united love to all your household. ever yr [your?] aff [affectionate?] Frans K.
