Transcript | To: [Reverend George Kirkpatrick, Ballymena, Ireland?] From: Kingston 25 [Ontario, Canada?] Nov1842 My dear George I fully expected to have been able to tell you that 100 was in Alexr [Alexander's] hands for you on a/c [account] of Mr Stewart but I find it impossible for him to pay & take out his deed. I have kept in my hands 100 for this purpose & when that is done I have agreed with Mr S [Stewart?] that a certain portion of it shall at once be sold and the incumbrances paid off - As the land will meet with ready sale this can be effected early in the Spring and I will take care that your interests shall be the first attended to - The rest of the land I have suggested shall be vested in trustees for Mr Ss [Stewart's?] childer in such portion as he intends leaving it to them after his death This will prevent Mr Thompson taking any steps against the land I cannot understand this matter - like no kind ever at home Ths [Thomas?] T was willing to give a sum certain say 1000 @ 1200 for Ths [Thomas?] Ss [Stewarts?] interest in the property. Now he claims the property as his & 3000 besides I think the claim is only advanced to frighten her We are thank God all well Though Thos [Thomas?] and two of our childer go to school (day) #PAGE 2 I hope you have succeeded in getting a tutor. It is a difficult thing to combine in a college student the temper & qualification &c necessary for an instructor No doubt you will see all our political news in the paper. I much fear that Sir C Hayes will not live through the winter He has thrown himself into the hands of the rebellion & disaffected &c now that it is too late, he sees his error but knows not how to remedy it. The Stewarts were [here?] when I heard it. Colley Foster is far from well. His health is breaking fast we are trying to induce him to sell out we all join in kindest love to you - your wife & boys Your affect [affectionate?] brother Stafford Kirkpatrick |
